EGT Come and Try April AM
For anyone who’s ever stood at the fence at Wanneroo Raceway thinking “I reckon I could do that”, the Come & Try Days are where that thought turns into reality.
Run by the WA Sporting Car Club, in partnership with Electrical Group Training, the Start Line – Come & Try sessions are designed as a genuine entry point into motorsport. No pressure. No ego. Just learning how cars behave on track, building confidence, and finding out whether motorsport is for you.
This isn’t about lap records or trophies. It’s about understanding vehicle control, feeling what grip really is, and safely getting your first taste of proper circuit driving.
What happens on a Come & Try Day?
Each session runs for around three hours and combines infield vehicle handling exercises with laps on the main circuit. You won’t be thrown in the deep end either — one of WASCC’s experienced instructors sits in the passenger seat, guiding you through every step.
The format is simple and effective:
- Start on the infield, learning braking, steering and balance
- Build confidence through structured exercises
- Apply those skills on the full circuit
- Real-time feedback from an instructor who’s there to help, not judge
It’s a relaxed environment, but everything is run professionally and safely — exactly what you want when you’re starting out.
Who is it for?
Honestly? Anyone curious about motorsport.
These days are ideal if you:
- Want to see what motorsport is actually like before committing further
- Are new to track driving and want proper instruction
- Have a road car and want to drive it in a controlled environment
- Are considering future sprint, regularity or racing competition
- You don’t need a race car, prior experience or special preparation beyond the basics.
What you’ll need
- Participants use their own vehicle, provided it’s mechanically sound and safe to run on track. Safety gear and clothing requirements are straightforward:
- Helmet with AS1698 compliance (hire helmets available)
- Long-sleeve shirt (preferably cotton)
- Long pants to the ankle
- Enclosed footwear
- Minimum age: 14 years
After registration, participants receive full preparation details so there are no surprises on the day.
Licences and eligibility
Come & Try Days operate under a Motorsport Australia Introductory Licence, which allows newcomers to get on track without holding a full competition licence. It’s worth noting this licence can only be used once every 12 months per person. If you’ve already used one at another event, a Motorsport Australia Speed Licence will be required.
Why it matters
Motorsport can look intimidating from the outside. Big rigs. Big budgets. Big personalities. The Come & Try Days strip all of that back.
They’re about:
- Learning safely
- Building confidence
- Understanding yourself and your car
- Deciding your next step — or simply enjoying the experience
Plenty of WASCC competitors started right here. Plenty more just discovered a new appreciation for driving.
How to get involved
Event dates are listed on the WASCC calendar, and spots are limited to maintain quality instruction and track time.
